The Ethiopian Women in Peace Building and Conflict Resolution project, funded by the Royal Dutch Embassy in Ethiopia, was developed in response to Ethiopian women’s desire to identify the causes and consequences of conflict in Ethiopia, document innovative community practices and use these practices to take concrete actions at the national and regional level. By building on the successes women have achieved in community peace building and conflict resolution, the project enhances the skills and confidence of women and girls to become effective agents of peace.
Peace interventions are tested in selected communities, schools and civil society organizations for the purpose of further learning, replication and development of best practices.
The project builds upon and draws on lessons learned from the ongoing Gender in Leadership and Decision Making project implemented in partnership with more than thirty local organizations. Specifically, IIRR draws on its experience of working with the media, schools, civil society organizations, government and in conflict-prone pastoralist communities along the Ethiopia-Kenya border .
