IIRR Regional Center for Asia Study Programs in January 2007

Two study programs were conducted in January, namely: “Training Workshop on Managing Development Organizations and Field Offices for Results” as requested by FASID (Foundation of Advance Studies in International Development), based in Tokyo, Japan, held last Jan 19-29; and “International Discovery Learning Program on Agriculture and Organization Building for Island Development in Maldives” for a mixed of government leaders and representatives of people’s organizations from Maldives supported by the UNDP-Maldives, held last Jan. 29 to Feb. 9.

The FASID group was attended by 17 participants, 15 were Japanese NGO workers and 2 were Filipinos.  The course, which was coordinated by Philip Penaflor together with Shayamal Saha, Jocelyn Nique, Noel Icatlo and Ning Reyes, also included visits to several organizations such as the Sacred Heart Family Center in Dasmarinas City, the Kabalikat sa Hanapbuhay Foundation, Inc., in Taal, Batangas, the Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA), in Quezon City, the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), in Manila, the Oxfam-Great Britain in Quezon City, the Catholic Relief Services in Manila, and the Children without Borders (KnK International), in Caloocan City.  This is the second request for IIRR by FASID on the same course.

The UNDP-Maldives group has 14 participants coming from the Ministry of Agriculture, the atoll chiefs, farmers and farmholders.  The study program included visits to several organizations in Manila, Laguna and Cebu including PAMANA, UPLB and Mag-uugmad Foundation among others.  The program was coordinated by Emily Monville together with Jitendra Sinha and Dulce Dominguez.
